Welcome to The Homestead Frontier

Homesteading, Simple Living
4 min read

If you have dirt under your fingernails, a to-do list longer than the daylight, and a soft spot for doing things yourself — you are in the right place.

Welcome to The Homestead Frontier. This site is for practical homestead tips you can use on real land: the garden bed that needs fixing this weekend, the fence post that will not wait, the pantry you want stocked before winter, and the small skills that make a household more self-reliant. Less theory. More “here is how I would do it.”

I am Bob Moore. I write and record the kind of advice I wish someone had handed me when I was figuring things out the hard way — gardening, DIY repairs, food preservation, preparedness, and simple living that actually fits a busy life. You do not need a perfect homestead to start. You need one next useful step.

What this place is (and is not)

The Homestead Frontier is a working notebook for people who grow food, mend what breaks, put food by, and quietly prepare for the seasons. It is not a glossy fantasy of acreage you do not have. It is not a hard sell dressed up as advice. It is practical guidance for folks who already have a patch of dirt, a toolbox, a kitchen, and a willingness to learn.

Some posts will be weekend projects. Some will be seasonal checklists. Some will be short lessons you can finish before the coffee cools. The goal is always the same: leave you more capable than when you arrived.

What you will find here

Posts are organized so you can grab what you need and get back outside:

  • Homesteading — big-picture skills for making a place produce and last, from layout choices to daily rhythms that keep the work manageable.
  • DIY & Repairs — fix-it projects, tools, and workarounds that save a service call when something on the place decides today is the day.
  • Food Preservation — canning, drying, freezing, and storing the harvest without waste, with safety and common sense front and center.
  • Gardening — soil, seasons, planting, watering, and troubleshooting what is growing (or stubbornly not).
  • Preparedness — practical readiness for weather, outages, and the unexpected — the kind that fits a household, not a bunker brochure.
  • Simple Living — habits and systems that cut clutter, cost, and fuss so you have energy left for the work that matters.

Expect clear steps, honest caveats, and ideas sized for real yards and real budgets — whether you are on a few acres or working a backyard one project at a time. Start small. Stack wins. Expand when the season and your energy allow.

Prefer to listen while you work?

Not every tip needs a long read. When your hands are busy and you still want a useful nudge, visit the Audio Tips page. Short, practical clips you can play while you weed, mend, or stack jars — the same voice and the same no-nonsense approach, just easier when you cannot wipe your hands to scroll.

Stay in the loop (no hard sell)

If you want new tips when they go up, you can join the newsletter opt-in on the home page. It is there when you are ready — no pressure, no inbox flood. Just a simple way to keep learning alongside the work. If you would rather browse the blog when you feel like it, that works too.

A friendly close

Homesteading is not about perfection. It is about showing up, learning the land under your feet, and stacking small wins until your place feels stronger than it did last season. Some days that looks like a full harvest day. Other days it looks like tightening one hinge and calling it good.

Thanks for stopping by The Homestead Frontier. Look around, try one idea this week, and come back when you need the next one. I will be here — boots on, notebook open, happy to share what works.
